Hello all residents of Sherwood Forest,

The Sherwood Forest Lake District has received concerned input from our community saying that they have encountered many non-residents from surrounding areas using our beaches and fishing in our lakes throughout the year. Some of these encounters have resulted in concerns for the safety of residents and much unsightly trash.
As a Sherwood Forest resident, you pay taxes to support and protect our dams, lakes, and beaches. You, your families, and your guests should be able to enjoy your lakes and your community properties in safety.
With this in mind, the committee has decided to follow the example of the Becket Town Beach in offering parking stickers for resident cars and family/guest permits for use on Sherwood Forest beaches. These parking stickers will be required for beach area parking lots. Each taxpayer will be given 2 free stickers for their cars and one visitor permit if requested.
You will be able to pick up your parking stickers from Peter Giano (516) 521-0111, request them by mail at the Lake District address ( SFLD Clerk, PO Box 663, Becket 01223), or pick them up at a Lake District committee meeting. Meetings are held on the second Saturday of each month at the Becket Town Hall. The Lake District website sfldbecket.org lists times and dates for meetings and additional contact information.

Thank you, and see you around the Forest!

Our Dams: Information and Repairs

$52,500 Grant for the Sherwood Forest Lake District (Becket)

The Sherwood Forest Lake District in Becket is very pleased to announce that they have received a $52,500 grant from the Massachusetts Dam and Seawall Fund at the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs.

The funds were granted to defray costs for the repair of the Lancelot Lake Dam, which is classified as a High Hazard level dam by the Mass Dept. of Conservation and Recreation, and is in poor condition. This award will support the planning and engineering phase of the project and return the dam to safety standards.

The grant application was submitted on behalf of the Lake District by Tighe and Bond, the Westfield Mass engineering firm hired to design options for the dam repair and to obtain the necessary permitting.

This grant, and another grant still in the application process, will significantly reduce the cost of the Lancelot Dam repair for taxpayers in the District.
